Evacuation Visualization from “Earthquake Disaster Reconstruction Investigation Data Archive”
The animation below was processed based on “Earthquake Disaster Reconstruction Investigation Data Archive” of the Great East Japan Earthquake, provided by the City Bureau and CSIS. The set of information extracted from the archive includes shape information of evacuation route and also the start and end time information of evacuation. The area colored in gray represents the flooded area. It can be seen that right after the earthquake, people start their evacuation toward various directions, and eventually locate themselves in non-flooded area or high altitude area.
More details about data sources are available at “Earthquake Disaster Reconstruction Investigation Data Archive” page. The use of evacuation route data is limited for administrative or academic purposes. Since the data is collected based on interviews, it could be inaccurate and also is limited to the answers of people who have survived
